About Wolverine Human Services

Since 1987, Wolverine has been the fastest growing child care agency in the state of Michigan. St. Jude's Home for Boys, a 40 bed facility for males, opened February 4, 1987. In January 1988, Wolverine opened the Wolverine Diagnostic, Assessment and Treatment Center, which now houses up to 22, 6-18 year old males in need of emergency shelter care. The Wolverine Center is also located on the East Side of Detroit. In September, 1988, Wolverine opened three programs: Victors Center, Pioneer Work and Learn Center and Community Based Programs. Victors Center, a 42 bed group facility which houses cognitively impaired, adolescent males and the Wolverine Sexually Reactive Program, a 14 bed intensive treatment program for cognitively impaired sexually reactive males is located on the East Side of Detroit. Pioneer Work and Learn Center located in Vassar, MI, houses 60 abused and/or neglected males and 30 non-secure substance abusing males; the Wolverine Growth and Recovery Center also in Vassar houses the Wolverine Center for Addiction, Recovery and Education - Intensive, a collaborative 90 day intensive drug treatment program for males with Growthworks, Inc., which opened in 2007; and the WSafeNet sexual offender program, a non-secure collaborative program with Ennis Center for Children which opened in 2008. The Wolverine Adventure, Vocational and Educational Systems, an 87 bed non-secure treatment program for adolescent males is also located in Vassar. Community Based Programs, which has offices in Taylor, Warren and Flint, Michigan, offers foster care services, supervised independent living services and adoption services.



In 1991, Wolverine opened the Wolverine Community Center and Soup Kitchen, now named the John S. Vitale Center in honor of its late center director. The center provides after school activities for neighborhood youth and hot meals for those in need. The Wolverine Specialized Day Treatment program, a 45 slot, co-ed program for Wayne County juvenile justice youth is also located at the Community Center. In 1997, Wolverine opened up the Wolverine Secure Treatment Center in Buena Vista Township which houses 100 adolescent males in need of secure residential treatment, which specializations in Substance Abuse, Sexual Offender and Mental Health treatment. In 1998, the Clarence Fischer Leadership Academy (CFLA) opened in Vassar on property adjacent to the Pioneer programs. CFLA, which houses 64 adolescent males, is a military leadership academy designed to instill self-discipline, structure and physical fitness.



In addition to Wolverine, in 1992 Mr. Wollack founded and was president of Florida's Gator Human Services which served 250 youth in nine programs until it was acquired by another agency in 1998. He is a founding member of the Florida Juvenile Justice Association as well as being a founding member and Treasurer of the Michigan Association of Accredited Child and Family Agencies. He has presented Testimony on behalf of children and families before the Michigan State Senate, House of Representatives and Detroit City Council.



In 2008, Wolverine opened the Vassar House program, dedicated to assisting up to 72 adolescent females through evidence based residential treatment services. Three separate programs within the facility include: Passages Behavioral Health, which provides intensive treatment services for young ladies experiencing a variety of mental health, behavioral and/or trauma related issues; WCARE-I, an intensive drug treatment program, which is a collaborative effort with Growthworks, Inc. and Journeys, a more traditional residential program which provides individual, group and family therapy.
