For the parentsWolverine Human Services is a multi-faceted human services agency that provides both community based and residential programming for youth. As part of our Mission Statement reads, Our purpose is to take part in a mutual effort, assisting those in need to overcome social and economic barriers, to capitalize on their personal strengths, and to contribute to their own healing. The staff at Wolverine is dedicated to this purpose and we strive to help improve the lives of Michigans children and families. If your son or daughter is in need of treatment services, whether it be truancy from the home, being incorrigible, substance abuse or a variety of behavioral issues, Wolverine can help. We offer residential programs for males in the Metro Detroit, Saginaw and Vassar areas. Wolverine also has a program for females, Vassar House, which is located in Vassar, MI, about twenty miles east of Saginaw. Our areas of specialization include: Substance Abuse (including Co-occurring Disorders), Sexual Offending, Anger Management, Behavioral Health, Trauma Informed Services, Cognitive Impairment, Emergency Shelter, Foster Care, Specialized Independent Living and our newest Adoptions. Each program that Wolverine operates serves a different population, so once we can identify the appropriate services that your child needs, a placement recommendation can be made. If your child is being placed by a juvenile court, Wayne County CMO or through the Michigan Department of Human Services, typically they are referred to one of our programs. Once the referral is made, an Intake Specialist from Wolverine will travel to wherever the child is and conduct an Intake Assessment Interview. After completion of the interview, the Intake Specialist will contact the referring agency and inform them of whether or not the referral has been accepted for placement. If a child is accepted for placement, then an admission date is scheduled. The referring agency will contact the parents to inform them of the details. Once the child is placed, they will have an opportunity to phone home to let the parents know they have made it to placement and give them contact information. A Wolverine staff member will also speak with the parents to answer questions, log additional information and give program information. After placement occurs, a Wolverine Family Worker will contact the family to set up a visit at their home to complete an Initial Family Assessment. This will help Wolverine in developing an effective Treatment Plan to assist the client in returning home after the completion of the program. Throughout the placement at Wolverine, WHS Family Workers will be in contact with family members, assist in transportation for visits to the Wolverine program and prior to program completion, develop the plan for a successful re-integration back to the community.
