Intern JesseName: Jesse Hoffman

Which WHS Program you work in: WHS Secure Treatment Center

Level of Education: High Diploma and Four years of College

Area of Study: Criminal Justice Major with a Youth Service Minor

Hometown: Cadillac, Michigan

Fun fact about you: On the SVSU Dodgeball Team, dream job is a state trooper, Pizza is my favorite food, and I am a cat person.

Why did you choose your area of study? I choose this area of study because you get to work with a variety of people. In this field you never know what is going to happen, and I like being on my toes. Being able to help people has been a childhood goal. I have always wanted to specialize in helping those struggling with mental illness. Being in this field gives me experience for what comes next.

What do you find most interesting about your internship at Wolverine Human Services?

So far I find group sessions to be very interesting. You never know what the kids are going to say. You can get a lot of insight about how the child is doing by their answer. I like the aspect of case management.

What inspiration do you draw from the youth and/or staff at Wolverine Human Services?

I like to see young adults changing for the better. I like the feeling of knowing I helped that child make a good choice. Maybe some of my experiences can shed some light for their future. Giving them the proper tools to be successful.

What else should we know about you?

I always try to put a smile on a face, and always try to be happy.
