We love interns at Wolverine Human Services, and are proud to partner with 12 colleges and universities as a field placement site. We believe that one of the most important ways we can impact our field is by helping to grow and develop the next generation of professionals.

Intern AlaaName: Ally (Alaa) Hojeij

Which WHS Program you work in: Community Based Programs – Teen and Young Adult Support Services

Level of Education: Bachelor’s Degree (BSW) expected April 2016

Area of Study: Major in Social Work with a Minor in Psychology

Hometown: Dearborn Heights, MI

Fun fact about you: I love to write poetry on my 1945 antique Remington Rand typewriter!

Why did you choose your area of study?

I have passion for my community and believe in social justice and empowerment of all people. I choose social work because I wanted a career that gave me the skills and experience to give back to communities and people who express the need.

What do you find most interesting about your internship at Wolverine Human Services?

What I find most interesting about my internship is ability to shadow workers and learn about all the departments within Community Based Programs. I have been able to experience what the child welfare field is like on a first hand basis and I’ve enjoyed that.

What inspiration do you draw from the youth and/or staff at Wolverine Human Services?

I’m inspired by the commitment that many people here at WHS possess. I’ve learned a lot in my short amount of time here and I couldn’t have asked for a better internship experience.

What else should we know about you?

I’m extremely excited to graduate this April and start my career as a social worker. Along with my hectic schedule of being a student, an intern, and having a job, I still find time for self care. I’m a lover of photography, poetry, concert-going, Netflix, and family time.
